Rome --> Tuscany

We departed Rome with the Pearsons crammed into Grazea, our Fiat, and headed north to Pitigliano, a romantic little town that Ron & Rose Ann wanted to share with Gena and us.  The town is delightful, quaint and its perch atop a cliff is stunning.  We wandered the town for a few hours shopping, eating the toughest beef jerky you could imagine, and a little gelato.  However the cliffside was the true story here, and once again the pictures cannot capture the beauty.

The drive continued north through the Tuscan countryside, with lots of vineyards and some olive groves as well.  However what struck me most was the fields of sunflowers, I was not expecting to see these and the bright yellow just pops against the blue sky.  I suppose I need to get a shot with something other than harvested wheat as the surrounding crop, maybe I'll do that today.

Our day ended, after getting turned around and having an elderly Italian woman tell us the absolutely wrong way to go, in the little village of Montegufoni where Rose Ann had booked a nice little agriturismo.  The surrounding area was great, the pool was cool and clean, but the misquitoes were a bit too much for Kathie and I.  The place had a nice little apartment with a kitchen so we stopped at a local alimentari to buy groceries, the lady behind the counter did not speak a word of English.  It was fun to communicate in our limited Italian; I'm certain she had a good story to tell after we spent about 80 euro on a bunch of stuff in this little place.  Ron made pesto gnocchi for supper, despite the lack of kitchenware, along with a nice salad, wine, and limoncello that we had previously purchased from Valentino's shop in Praiano; it was all so good!

Ron, me, the pool and some of the olive trees surrounding the agriturismo.

A beautiful Tuscan sunset.
